Externship Program

At Country Day, we take pride in providing our students with enriching, leadership experiences that expand their education beyond our classroom walls through experiential learning and community collaboration.

In 2017, we launched the Senior Externship Program, a one-day job shadowing and mentoring experience that allows our students to explore a profession, gain an understanding of what a job entails, learn about a typical “day in the life of,” and make meaningful connections. We have proudly partnered with more than 100 Charlotte-area employers and organizations in at least 20 different industries to offer a wide breadth of offerings in numerous fields.

Employer Hosts

We partner with our parents, alumni, friends of alumni, grandparents, and friends of Country Day who serve as hosts, sharing their passion and expertise to mentor our bright and motivated students. Serving as a host employer is also a good opportunity to market your organization and develop greater connections with the Country Day community. To participate as an Externship host and to help us better match our seniors with your organization, we welcome you to complete this brief Employer Host Questionnaire.

“I shadowed the chief of cardiothoracic surgery and saw two open heart surgeries, one Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG), an Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR), and two Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements (TAVRs)! Standing over the patients’ open hearts was incredible. I was in awe of the preciseness of the maneuvers and the technology that allows us to fix even the most fatal of problems. This experience only strengthened my interest in medicine and affirmed my desire to become a surgeon. I will use some of what I learned in my career as a surgeon.”

“The Externship Program gives students a great opportunity to learn a different perspective and we really enjoyed hosting our student. The program ran smoothly and was well organized.”
