Big Saturday is one of our school's longest traditions and this year didn't disappoint! What has remained constant for 57 years is the fun and fellowship this event encourages. More than 850 volunteers from all facets of the school—parents, students, faculty, staff from Plant Operations, the cafeteria and security, and other Country Day personnel—came together as a community to support the school.
Sunny skies and spring weather brought out large crowds for a day filled with food, games, rides, camaraderie, and fun. Jewelry and art from the new Art POP UP Shop, delicious treats from Bucs Bakery, lunch options representing various countries at the International Tent, and impressive performers from the Talent Show were among the favorites. Stilt walkers, jugglers, balloon tiers, and bright, creative decorations all added to the carnival-like atmosphere.
Run For Good is a Runaway Success
The weekend festivities and excitement of Big Saturday really kicked off on Friday as 600 students in grades JK–12 participated in the inaugural charity Run For Good held on Bissell Campus. All the pre-registration fees totaling $12,140 benefited The Learning Collaborative (TLC), a local preschool Country Day has shared a long-term partnership with.
"I am completely overwhelmed by the generosity of the CCDS family! Friday was a banner day for The Learning Collaborative and we have YOU to thank for it! Thanks to your unselfishness, we will be able to serve more children and families from under-served, fragile families. We had recently opened a classroom for ages 18 mos - 2 yr olds on a part time schedule due to funding concerns. Now, with the generous contribution from the CCDS family, we will be able to keep those doors open for the remainder of the year! We are beyond elated that we will be able to touch children and families even earlier to help pave the way for success in their educational journey!"

Varsity track team members assisted our youngest runners, while volunteers from the National Junior Honor Society and Aquilifer Club, along with many other volunteers also assisted with this community-wide event. A DJ and photo booth rounded out the afternoon of fun! View and purchase images taken from the photo booth.
Record Car Raffle Ticket Sales
Thanks to the support of students and parents, the car raffle experienced record sales with more than 53,600 tickets sold! Our division heads pulled the winning car raffle ticket for Ann Flouhouse (grandmother of Lower Schoolers, Madison and Charlie Flouhouse), who received a $30,000 credit toward any car of her choice, provided by Sonic Automotive.
Big Saturday could not happen without the tireless efforts of many. A special thanks to the outstanding support from the Parents' Association, the Big Saturday committee, chaired by Jamie Sumich and Ann Willey; Kelly Miller and Kristen Wester, Run For Good co-chairs; Sonia Cleven and Becca Bush, Car Raffle co-chairs; and to the hundreds of other volunteers who helped make this event such a tremendous success!
