Sally Sasz '17 Named a Morehead-Cain Scholar
Posted 04/06/2017 08:15AM

Sally Sasz '17 is the 29th Country Day senior to be offered the prestigious and highly selective Morehead-Cain Scholarship to attend UNC-Chapel Hill. In fact, she is the fourth Country Day recipient in five years.

The oldest, and one of the most prestigious merit scholarships in the country, the Morehead-Cain fully funds all costs associated with undergraduate study at UNC-Chapel Hill for four years, and includes additional programs such as four years of summer enrichment opportunities. She joins an elite group, as evidenced by the fact that just three percent of candidates receive this highly selective scholarship.

An impressive student, artist, athlete, and leader, Sally is the kind of passionate, young “doer” that the Morehead-Cain Foundation seeks to make a similar impact at UNC-Chapel Hill, and eventually the state of North Carolina. Her senior year academic load includes six Advanced Placement (AP) courses, she is president of the National Art Honor Society, a Big Sister mentor at Rama Road Elementary, a member of the Art and Literary Magazine staff, and a member of the varsity basketball team and the four-time state championship varsity tennis team.

Sally took part in a selective arts program at Cornell University last summer and created Found Art Forward, an initiative to build community through art. “Art has taught me to move forward from my mistakes and turn them into something,” Sally wrote in her application for the scholarship. “Art challenges me to look at my mistakes from different angles."
