Dr. Tara Christie Kinsey is pleased to share that Head of Lower School Bill Mulcahy will transition to a new role as Director of Strategic Initiatives, effective July 1, 2026. This JK–12 position will report to Dr. Jeremy Moore, Assistant Head of School, and focuses on advancing full-school strategic initiatives and implementation efforts.
Since arriving at Country Day in 2018, Bill has partnered with faculty and staff to make a significant impact on the Lower School community. During his eight-year tenure, the Lower School adopted a new research-based literacy program, implemented a social-emotional learning curriculum, and enhanced diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work. Additionally, Bill partnered with the Lower School student support team to develop protocols bolstering the academic and social-emotional support for all Lower School students. His weekly communications to families exemplify his commitment to a strong school-parent partnership as he regularly shares relevant parenting and development research and resources centered around what's best for our youngest learners.

The foundation of Bill’s leadership has always been care and kindness. He is known for knowing every student by name and for the joy he brings to daily interactions—whether sharing his passion for the Buffalo Bills or dressing up as the marshmallow man for Halloween. Parents and colleagues appreciate his genuine interest in the lives of others.
"With Bill in this new role, Country Day will be better able to leverage his considerable analytical, research, and writing skills, as well as his institutional knowledge, while also giving him broader JK-12 responsibilities that will allow for continued growth as a school leader," said Head of School Dr. Tara Christie Kinsey.
Next steps regarding Lower School leadership for the coming year will be communicated in the weeks ahead. The school is deeply grateful to Bill for his eight years of service, collegial spirit, and heartfelt dedication to children, and extends appreciation to the entire Lower School leadership team and faculty for their professionalism and commitment to students.
