The Office of International Studies has been vibrant with cultural events, celebrating cultures from around the world and providing unique learning experiences for our students, faculty, and parents.
To honor National Hispanic Heritage Month, a chef from Spain prepared traditional paella on the Quad, with Country Day parent Luisa Garcia-Pardo lending a hand to make it all happen. Upper School students and staff gathered to watch the process, learn the story behind paella, and taste over 400 plates of chicken and veggie paella!
AP and IB Spanish students engaged in full Spanish immersion through the new Taste of Cultures program, learning from Chilean native Chef Andres Prussing and Country Day parent Fabiola Bobo while preparing authentic dishes at the Farm. This hands-on experience allowed students to deepen their cultural understanding and language skills while savoring the flavors of Chile.
In the video below, Fabiola Bobo shares her story and connection to her homeland, and a student shares what she learned about the experience in fluent Spanish.
As part of the Diversity Guest Author Series, Middle School International Parents were invited to an engaging and interactive luncheon and discussion with author Rajani LaRocca.
On October 24, Middle School welcomed a group of students from King Edward School in Southampton, England as part of our 29-year sister school partnership. Some of our eighth graders serve as buddies and hosts during their 12-day visit. Our students will have their turn to experience England when they visit Southampton in January.
Meanwhile, students and faculty got hands-on with Rangoli, an intricate Indian art form traditionally made during Hindu festivals and in honor of Diwali. In the cafeteria, students created beautiful sand designs, learning how these vibrant patterns are meant to bring good luck, beauty, and positive energy.
