Finding authentic cross-disciplinary experiences for students in Lower School has been an integral part of our art planning process. From designing colorful robots and bringing them to life with the magic of technology in the Design Lab, creating clay pots in the studio for planting pansies in science, or making marbled paper and handmade books to be written in during library lessons, the creative process is enhancing the student experience both in and out of their time in art class.
Recently second-graders used their knowledge of the migration of the Monarch from science to create a butterfly garden with collaged paper 3-D butterflies during art. Students explored where artists find inspiration and how they can use powers of observation to add specific details to their artwork.
