A Tradition of Service at the Special Olympics Mecklenburg County Spring Games

For two days each April, Country Day's Cannon Campus transforms. The Upper School classrooms are quiet, and the fields come alive with cheering, with effort, and with joy.

Since 1984, Country Day has had the privilege of hosting the Special Olympics Mecklenburg County Spring Games. Upper School students and educators step out of their academic routines and into roles as buddies, timekeepers, and event assistants. Walking alongside athletes, celebrating every finish line, and showing up fully for the people beside them truly exemplifies Country Day's mission of a responsibility to serve.

This year was no exception. Over two remarkable days, our Upper School — students, faculty, and staff — came together in a spirit of inclusion, acceptance, and genuine connection. It's an experience that leaves a mark on everyone who participates. Thank you to everyone who came together to help make this year another great success.
