On September 12, the entire JK-12 academic community gathered for the 14th annual All-School Convocation.
As is tradition, the program began with the senior class walking into Bruton Smith Athletic Center hand in hand with junior kindergarten and kindergarten students, followed by the National Anthem, band and choir performances, and student speakers from each division.
This was Dr. Kinsey’s first convocation and she acknowledged former Head of School Mark Reed for initiating this meaningful tradition. Dr. Kinsey then spoke about the importance of mattering, saying, “This is a school where we try to see one another as we most wish to be seen. Each tiny act is like another stitch in a large and diverse quilt. This year and in the years to come, we want to make that quilt thicker and warmer and wider so that all, not just some, can feel its comfort and warmth and grace.” She then asked the audience to share with their neighbor how they want to be known today and remembered for their time in this community.
The program concluded in a full circle moment as Ricky Browne, senior class president, presented an oak tree sapling to the classes of 2038 and 2039. Ricky was the kindergartener who received the tree for the Class of 2026 in 2013.
