Sharing Engineering Expertise
Engineering teacher Charles Tuttle believes it’s important to show students how the lessons learned in his classroom connect to real-world applications by bringing in guest speakers. Recently, he was delighted to welcome back his former student, Tony Nguyen ’18, who five years after graduating Country Day is pursuing his engineering goals. While at Country Day, Tony had to adjust to a different lifestyle after transferring his freshman year. He began to build strong relationships with teachers, connect with classmates, get involved in athletics, and focused heavily on the math and science curriculum.
Tony graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and a minor in mathematics. After completing an internship at CIMTEC, an engineering company that focuses on offering innovative options that can reduce costs and improve quality and efficiency, Tony was brought on full-time as an applications engineer. With a concentration in power and energy systems, Tony now focuses on customer project support, solutions for various problems that arise, and documentation and communication with customers.
While discussing his academic track in college, Tony discussed internship opportunities within engineering and provided tips, ideas, and words of advice on how to be successful and market oneself for these positions. The class got a behind-the-scenes look at what his current job entails, with a robot to demonstrate!
Tony expressed that he still focuses on growing his knowledge daily and discussed how time management is his key to success. While sharing his achievements, he added “the amount of effort you put in results in the impact of the payoff you receive.”
