Town Meeting Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month Through Art and Community

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Lower School students gathered for a special Town Meeting featuring artist and author Eugenia Mello, whose work and personal story offered students a firsthand look at the power of creativity, perseverance and practice.

Mello shared stories from growing up in several South American countries and introduced students to two of her books. She also talked about the recent selection of her artwork as the logo for this year’s U.S. Open and demonstrated her artistic process through live-action drawings of students in motion.

Her message about the patience, perseverance, and practice that go into developing an artistic craft resonated with students. Mello also visited a third-grade art class, where she had an opportunity to connect with students and share more about her work.

Town Meetings provide an opportunity for students and faculty to come together around shared experiences, celebrate members of our community and learn from special guests.
