Del Pino Tabbed As New Girls' Soccer Program Head

Country Day Director of Athletics, Abe Wehmiller, has announced the hiring of Oscar Del Pino as the Bucs' new Girls' Soccer Program Head and Head Varsity Girls' Soccer Coach. Del Pino comes to Country Day after 12 seasons leading the boys' soccer program at Charlotte Catholic.

"We were able to put together an impressive pool of candidates for this position, and Oscar very much distinguished himself in that pool," Wehmiller said. "He has a track record of success in a highly competitive program and has a strong reputation for developing players and teams over time. We also saw him as a coach who is committed to the idea of high school soccer and focused on making that experience a meaningful one for everyone involved. We're excited to see the impact he has on our program."

During Del Pino's tenure at the helm of the Charlotte Catholic boys' program, his teams amassed an overall record of 248 wins, 40 losses, and 15 ties; won eight conference championships; and achieved a 38-11 record in postseason matches. In 2008, his first season as the Cougars' head coach, his team won the North Carolina High school Athletic Association 3A state championship. His final team this past fall reached the NCHSAA championship game before eventually falling in overtime.

Del Pino also spent time as an assistant varsity and head JV coach at Catholic in both the boys’ and girls’ programs. In addition to his scholastic experience, he has worked extensively in the club soccer world, having served as a director of operations for the Mecklenburg United Futbol Club and as a coach for various boys’ and girls’ select and travel teams with Charlotte United Futbol Club.

He holds a United States Soccer Federation “C” license and a National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (now United Soccer Coaches). He is a longtime resident of Charlotte, having graduated from Charlotte Catholic and earned an undergraduate degree in political science the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

"I've been blown away by the enthusiasm and energy throughout Country Day Athletics," Del Pino said. "It's contagious. There is so much support and trust for what we can accomplish within the girls' soccer program. After spending time with our returning staff and players, I cannot wait for the first preseason practice of 2020 to start building the future of our program."
