Our Campus

Our students benefit from two campuses—Cannon and Bissell—located approximately four miles apart, covering a combined 117 acres.

Cannon Campus

Cannon Campus is home to Lower School (grades JK–4) and Upper School (grades 9–12), as well as administrative offices.

Shuford Green

Shuford Green features walkways and landscaping between the Lower and Upper School sides of campus.

Hance Lower School Learning Center

The Hance Lower School Learning Center provides a wide array of multi-sensory learning opportunities designed for the needs of our youngest learners. It combines an extensive collection of books and resources for digital literacy with storytelling and instruction rooms and reading nooks in the Media Center.

Design and Innovation Lab and the Makerspace

The Design and Innovation Lab and the Makerspace engages young students with age-appropriate, hands-on problem-solving, collaboration, and design thinking.

Brock Center for Extended Day

Housed in the Hance Lower School Learning Center, the Brock Center for Extended Day includes four dedicated flexible-use classrooms, a culinary corner, and a welcoming entrance to streamline pickup/dropoff.

Dowd Student Center

Designed to foster community, collaboration, and wellness, the Dowd Student Center transforms the heart of Cannon Campus into a hub of student-centered activity, enhances educational programming, and includes our two age-appropriate dining halls.

Dawson Lower School Dining Hall

Dawson Dining Hall, housed in the Dowd Student Center, provides age-appropriate spaces for our youngest students and is designed for the preparation of fresh and nutritious foods.

Purdy Center for Science and Mathematics

The Purdy Center for Science and Mathematics fosters cross-disciplinary collaboration and empowers hands-on, meaningful research by students and teachers. It includes eight dedicated lab spaces and offers ample gathering spaces and study lounges to promote collaborative learning and problem-solving.

The Purdy Center for Science and Mathematics includes eight dedicated lab spaces for chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering inquiry and design, and incorporates advanced technology to support high-level instruction and research.

Belk Upper School Learning Center

Modeled after state-of-the-art learning commons at top universities, the flexible, multi-use John and Claudia Belk Upper School Learning Center, which opened in August 2020, blends access to the latest information technology with traditional books and journals, within a dynamic academic center that promotes active collaboration as well as quiet study.

Belk Upper School Learning Center

The 14,000 square foot John and Claudia Belk Upper School Learning Center, which opened in August 2020, offers indoor and outdoor learning spaces. It features reconfigurable furniture, flexible technology, and a wealth of study space options to accommodate all learning 

Hance Fine Arts Center

The interior of the 45,730-square-foot Hance Fine Arts Center is a work of art in itself. It is home to a 3-D art studio, blackbox theater, exhibit gallery, photo studio, music practice rooms and much more.

Campus Gardens
Students study, socialize, and relax in our many school gardens.
Gorelick Family Theater

Our main performance space, the Gorelick Family Theater seats approximately 400 and provides a wonderful home for more than 70 award-winning plays and musicals, concerts, special events, lectures, and assemblies each year for students and parents.

BucsShop

Housed by the Dowd Student Center, the BucsShop is located at the center of campus and features Country Day apparel.

Bissell Campus

Bissell Campus, located on Green Rea Road, is designed specifically for the education and development of Middle School students (grades 5–8).

The Sklut Center

Our distinctive campus just for middle school students provides many benefits. The Sklut Center is at the center of campus.

Dowd Science Building

Large, airy lab/lecture-style classrooms are fully equipped to support the Middle School's hands-on science program.

Dougherty Media Center

The Dougherty Library offers access to more than 10,000 books and non-print material through an automated online catalog. The school library/media program is an integral part of the instructional process. Students receive whole-class, small group, and one-on-one instruction and practice their skills through authentic activities and research.

From PE and athletics to community programs and performances, Bissell Gym is a central gathering spot.

Future Spaces (Open Spring 2022)

Our planned enhancements to campus facilities ensures we create a distinctive learning environment and innovative learning spaces.

Klein Aquatic Center

The 30,000 square foot Klein Aquatic will house an eight-lane, 25-yard competition pool, and a five-lane, 25-yard warm-up/activity pool, which will allow for aquatics programming at all age levels. Both pools will provide ample practice space for our Middle School and varsity swim teams.

Performance Gym

The new Harris Performance Gym will provide ample space to host and welcome large events. The weight room and wrestling/multipurpose rooms will allow for training opportunities for all our sports.

Athletics Complex

Our comprehensive Athletics Complex, including the Bruton Smith Athletic Center, will include the wrestling room, weight room, administrative offices, visitors' locker room space, a health and wellness area, and an increased workspace for physical education teachers and coaches.

Beyond Campus

A Country Day education extends beyond the classroom walls to offer experiential learning and community collaboration at all levels.

Senior Externship

The Senior Externship Program is a one-day shadowing and mentoring experience that allows our students to explore a profession and gain an understanding of what a job entails. We have proudly partnered with more than 100 Charlotte-area employers and organizations to offer a wide breadth of offerings in numerous fields.

Big Brothers Big Sisters partnership

Country Day piloted the high school mentoring program for Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2002. Nearly half the junior and senior class volunteer one lunch hour a week to be a friend to a young child.
