Major Gifts

Country Day offers a variety of ways to significantly support the school. Substantial gifts ensure funding of strategic priorities and create a distinctive learning environment that prepares students for a fast-changing global society. We are grateful for generous gifts that will allow us to build on already strong academic and innovative programming, financial aid, and professional development of exceptional faculty that are critical in preparing students for a successful future.

Endowments & Scholarships

Endowment plays a critical role in allowing the school to fulfill its mission and ensure long-term financial stability.

An endowment fund can be compared to a long-term investment or savings plan. It is a “permanent” fund in which the principal is invested and the earnings are spent. A strong endowment ensures our long-term strength and stability because the funds earned help to support dynamic programming, scholarships that ensure a diverse community of learners, top-flight educators who become even better through professional development, and the operating costs that come with innovative facilities. Endowment relieves pressure on tuition and annual giving, playing a critical role in ensuring the long-term affordability of a Country Day education.

We are grateful to alumni, faculty and staff, parents, grandparents, trustees, and friends for establishing the funds listed below.

Endowment Funds and Scholarships

Endowment Facts

  • Endowment funds 5% of the operating budget, providing scholarship funds, enhancing the academic program, and supporting faculty professional development while sustaining the school's long-term stability.
  • Country Day's endowment is the largest among independent schools in North Carolina—signaling our leadership and our ambition.
  • 74 restricted and unrestricted endowment and scholarship funds valued at $66 million (as of 12/31/21).
  • While endowments are established through sizable initial gifts, they may grow through smaller, ongoing gifts from other supporters of the school.

Community service is part of the core fabric of the Country Day experience, and we want to provide support and encouragement to students for their efforts through endowed support.
