Athletics
Rising Grades 7–8
2023–24 Overview
Each year, seventh and eighth grade boys and girls have the option to participate in athletics and play on one of 30 teams offered across 23 sports.
Bissell Campus is home to dedicated training, competition, and playing facilities, making for easy access to practice and more convenient scheduling of competitions. In addition, a dedicated athletic trainer provides students with preventative care and treatment for athletics-related injuries out of a training room in the Middle School gym.

Additional Information
- Students may participate in one sport each season. Sports are considered an extracurricular activity and are not required at the Middle School level. On average, approximately 90 percent of our students in Grades 7 and 8 participate in at least one sport each year.
- Baseball, Cheerleading, Cross Country, Golf, Boys’ Lacrosse, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track & Field, and Wrestling have a single team for Grades 7 and 8. All other sports are divided into two teams, either by grade level or by playing experience/ability.
- Our ability to offer a particular sport is contingent upon a minimum level of student interest. We will determine this interest during our sign-up process and allow students to switch to another sport in the rare instances that we do not have sufficient student interest to offer their first-choice sport.
- Students sign up for sports each spring via a form they receive from our staff at their Country Day e-mail address. The form allows them to choose which sports they are interested in for each of the three seasons the following school year.
- Families of all students who register for a sport will receive information about that sport over the summer for fall sports, and approximately six weeks in advance of the season for winter and spring sports.
