Charlotte Country Day School

A MESSAGE FROM THE ALUMNI COUNCIL

Dear  Alumni,

You recently received two important letters: one from the Board of Trustees on June 15 and another from Mark Reed on June 2. We write to express support for the work being done and extend an invitation for alumni to get involved.

As Scott shared, “We collectively acknowledge the privilege that often divides our community, and the need to build a stronger culture of racial inclusion at Country Day. We also recognize the urgent need to be better at making Charlotte Country Day School a fully inclusive place for all students.” The Board of Trustees is committed to doing ongoing comprehensive work that will inform our long-term strategic plan for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). To that end, the board will partner with an organization to aid with DEI work at Country Day. In the coming months, alumni will be asked to share their thoughts and experiences and lend a voice to our efforts.

The Alumni Council will bolster the work of the board by establishing an Alumni of Color Committee. The mission of the group is to bring together and strengthen the alumni of color community and to provide support for students of color on campus. We invite you to nominate individuals for Alumni Council committees.

For those who wish to learn more and actively take part in the work, please sign up to get involved. The Office of Diversity Planning will provide information about a 21-Day Racial Equity Habit Building Challenge  and other opportunities for engagement. You may connect with Brian Wise, director of diversity planning with questions.

If you want to connect with someone before the strategic plan work in the fall, please reach out to Danielle Ferguson or Brian Wise anytime.

#BucsforLife means that no matter how long ago you graduated, you can play a role in shaping the future of this community. We hope to hear from you.

In partnership,

Danielle S. Ferguson, Director of Alumni Relations

Lauren Harkey ’05, 2019-20 Alumni Council President
