A Very Special Announcement

Dear Charlotte Country Day School community:

With great pleasure and gratitude, we announce the anticipated opening in the summer of 2020 of the new John and Claudia Belk Upper School Learning Center. The Belk Learning Center will be a versatile and dynamic academic space at the heart of our Upper School in the current location of the Dickson-Sanger Cafeteria. This technologically advanced state-of-the-art library will promote individual and group study both during and after school with reconfigurable furniture, flexible technology, and a multitude of study carrels. Plans for a large fireplace and small café or snack area will further make this space an inviting and dynamic place to learn, grow, and collaborate.

The approximately 14,000 square foot Belk Learning Center is also the final component of a three-phased construction plan that delivers on our strategic priority to create a distinctive and innovative learning environment.

The John and Claudia Belk Upper School Learning Center is made possible by a gift from the John M. Belk family, MC Belk Pilon '92 and Jeff Pilon '92 of more than $5 million toward capital, endowment, and the Country Day Fund.

In choosing the name for the Learning Center, MC and Jeff sought to honor the work of John and Claudia Belk. John Belk once said, "The more you do for mankind, the better you'll like life. Whether it's a company or a city or state, you've got to leave it better for the next generation." The Learning Center is a current advancement of his life long effort to leave things better for those that will come in the future.

Country Day is also pleased to announce that MC and Jeff have created an endowed scholarship fund to provide access to a Country Day education for talented and well-rounded ninth-twelfth grade students in our community.
