International Parents Group
The International Parents Group helps welcome and integrate international families into the school community. Its primary goals are to enhance the school's globally-minded culture and host and facilitate globally-themed initiatives on campus, and encourage families to participate in school activities and contribute their global diversity to the school. In addition to families with international backgrounds, we welcome families with an interest in helping promote global engagement and diversity.
Big Saturday International Food Hall

Held in conjunction with Big Saturday, the International Food Hall is sponsored by the International Parent Board and features authentic dishes from more than 20 countries around the world—lovingly prepared and donated by Country Day international families. From savory bites to sweet treats, the beloved tradition celebrates the rich cultural diversity of our school community and is an opportunity for families to share their heritage and traditions. Examples include: Plantain kebabs from Nigeria, spring rolls from China, boerewors from Zimbabwe, shepherd’s pie from Ireland, spaghetti Bolognese from Italy, pocky from Japan, pepero from Korea, Berliner donuts from Germany, plus dishes from Ethiopia, Turkey, Brazil, Vietnam, and more!
International Parents Dinner

Every fall, the International Parents Fall Dinner brings together around 80 members of the Country Day community for a warm and welcoming evening that celebrates the rich cultural diversity within our school. This special event offers international families a chance to connect, share experiences, and build community in a festive and inclusive atmosphere.

Volunteer Opportunities
Assist with Cultural Events and Presentations
Volunteers work with the board and the International Studies department to arrange and manage insightful and engaging speaking events that foster an inclusive, affirming mindset – designed to increase awareness of the community we live in and the part we play in the wider world. There are also opportunities to engage with the International Studies department to help with cultural celebrations or global events throughout the year.
Host International Parents Dinner
The International Parents Dinner is an opportunity to socialize with our diverse and international parent community. Holding this event in a private home makes it very special. The host provides the venue, but all the work is done by the International Parent Board. Commitment is a Saturday evening (timing TBD).
Host an International Student
Hosting a visiting student is a great opportunity for your child to learn about another culture and in some cases practice their language skills. It is also a chance for the visiting students to experience American culture and make lasting connections with their host families. Commitments range from a few days, weeks, or a semester.
Big Saturday International Food Hall – Chefs
Every year, the International Board organizes and hosts the Big Saturday's International Food Hall featuring food from all around the world. Volunteering as chefs with us is a great way to share your cultural heritage with the Country Day community. You can either provide food you cook or purchase it from a restaurant or vendor. You will have plenty of help and support from the International Board as well as student volunteers to assist you as needed.
Big Saturday International Food Hall – Student Volunteer Coordinator
We are fortunate to have student volunteers from the Upper School to help at the International Food Hall. This volunteer’s job is to ensure that the student volunteers find where they need to go, sign in, and sign out at the end of their shifts. It is a great opportunity for these students to engage with an international community and be part of the celebration of different cultures.
Big Saturday International Food Hall – Treasurers (2)
These volunteers work with the Big Saturday committee and chefs to manage the financial aspects of each country at the Food Hall. Responsibilities include coordinating with the Big Saturday bank and food hall, collecting cash boxes, cash and tickets, distributing to the countries, and counting the proceeds.
Stay Connected
Families who expressed interest in this group during the admissions process receive updates and invitations to events that celebrate and support our globally-minded school community. If you would like to be added to the distribution list it is always open to others who would like to get involved. Whether you have an international background or simply a passion for global perspectives, we welcome your participation and look forward to connecting with you.
