Holiday Breakfast

Holiday Breakfast since 1955

The first Christmas Breakfast, which evolved into the Holiday Breakfast, was first held in 1955. For many years the event was hosted by the school with the full Country Day community—students, faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, and alumni—enjoying a full meal together. Over the years, as Charlotte and Country Day have become more diverse, the breakfast has evolved. In more recent decades, the Holiday Breakfast was hosted by the Parents’ Association on the first day of Holiday Break.

The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic required the PA to rethink this community gathering, which had become primarily a Lower School event, as today’s Country Day families are often traveling during the December holidays. Because we couldn’t gather in December 2020, the PA partnered with the Upper School Interact Club and Roof Above to offer a Holiday Donation Drive-Thru. As families drove through in their cars, children received individually bagged donuts, and Upper School students collected socks and underwear for people sheltering at Roof Above.

As gathering restrictions eased, an outdoor, drop-in format and collection drive called Gathering for Good continued through December 2022.
