In 1968, the board authorizes the purchase of an additional 30 acres, bringing Country Day’s campus to 60 acres and allowing for future expansion. Additional facilities are added between 1972 and 1992.
- The Elizabeth Reddig Lower School Library and the Upper School Cannon Library are completed and dedicated in October 1972. The building is the largest component of the Program of Progress capital campaign and former North Carolina Governor Terry Sanford is the guest speaker at the dedication. A student center and expansion of the Cannon Science Building are also completed.
- In 1973, the expanded gym is dedicated and named the Harris Gymnasium in memory of James and Angelia Harris and in honor of Sara Harris Bissell and Smoky Bissell, John W. Harris, and Cameron M. Harris.
- The Fine Arts Theater was completed in time for the opening of school in 1975, and in June 1976, graduation is held for our 67 seniors.
- By 1978 there are 13 buildings occupying one 60-acre campus.
- In 1985, a new junior kindergarten building is completed, and Country Day offers preschool instruction to four-year-olds. The JK program begins with two classes.
- In 1991, Sanger Cafeteria is renovated and expanded to meet the divergent needs of Lower and Upper School students. In December 1992 it is renamed Dickson-Sanger Dining Hall and the Dowd Dining Room to recognize the deep and committed relationships the Dickson and Dowd families have with Country Day.
