College Search Process

Country Day college counselors are fully committed to helping every student find a college or university that best matches their aspirations—a place where they will flourish.

Our Step-By-Step Process

Step 1: Early Encouragement

From a very early age, Country Day students are guided toward establishing a strong academic record and participating in community service, sports, special interest pursuits, and leadership opportunities, actively shaping the way they will be perceived by colleges.

Step 2: Course Selection Guidance

Advisors work with ninth and tenth graders to select courses that will help establish an exemplary record.

Step 3: Personal Guidance

Advisors get to know each student personally and help identify and answer important questions: What size school will suit me? How far from home would I like to be? What type of campus culture is important to me?

Step 4: College Advisors

Every junior is assigned a college counselor who provides holistic guidance throughout the college admissions process.

Step 5: Junior Forum

Held each fall to help students and their parents understand the college search process, the Junior Forum is an opportunity to hear directly from college admissions officers.

Step 6: Access to College Representatives

During the course of each school year, more than 150 college representatives visit the Country Day campus to meet with students and answer questions.

Step 7: Search and Application Support

Country Day college counselors guide students through the complexities of the search and application process, providing expertise and ensuring that every student is aware of the many opportunities available.

Step 8: Letters of Recommendation

Our faculty advisors write and submit extensive and uniquely individualized college recommendation letters for every senior.

Step 9: Help Making the Big Decision

Once acceptance letters are received, college counselors assist students and their families as they evaluate scholarship offers, consider various opportunities, and work toward a final decision.

Step 10: Preparing Students for the College Experience

With the help of our professional counselors, Country Day students are fully prepared for what to expect in the first year of college and the kinds of issues they may face.
