Math Courses
Algebra I
Rising grades 8–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
An introduction to functions, modeling, data analysis, and variables. Students use graphical, symbolic, tabular, and numerical representations as they solve problems involving unknown quantities.
Geometry
Rising grades 9–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
A study of parallelism, congruence, similarity, polygons, circles, areas and volumes, coordinate geometry, and transformations. The Geometer’s Sketchpad software helps students explore relationships and formulate conjectures. Methods of proof are used to establish truth of conjectures.
Algebra II/Trigonometry
Rising grades 10–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
A review and extension of Algebra I and Geometry to include polynomials and logarithms with emphasis on linear and quadratic forms, powers and roots, and their functions. A review of triangle trigonometry and an introduction to trigonometric functions is also included.
Precalculus
Rising grades 10–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
A study of functions and graphs including trigonometry, higher order polynomials, exponents, logarithms, analytic geometry, sequences and series, vectors, polar coordinates, and an introduction to limits.
Social Studies Courses
United States History
Rising grades 10–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
Students learn how the nation has grown from a wilderness to a superpower. This progression of American society and the growth of democracy is examined through reading, lecture, discussion, and research.
World History
Rising grades 10–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
This course is designed to give students a working knowledge of the origins of world civilizations and their development, with a special emphasis on the development of western civilization.

Biology
Rising grades 9–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
A conceptual and lab-based survey of fundamental biological principles with emphasis on cell structure and function, genetics, biotechnology, evolution, and human systems.
Chemistry
Rising grades 10–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
An investigation of the physical and chemical properties of matter. This course includes a study of atomic theory, the mole concept, bonding, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. The approach stresses the understanding of basic principles developed through laboratory and problem-solving experiences. Prerequisite: Algebra I.
English Courses

Rising grades 9–12. 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $610.
For a year’s credit in English 9, 10, 11 or 12, students should register for any two of the semester English courses listed below under Semester Credit Courses. The total tuition for two semester courses is $610. A single semester course is $335. Students needing credit for English 9 and 10 should sign up for (1) Composition Skills, and (2) Literary Analysis, Vocabulary Building, and Grammar. Students who need credit for English 11 should register for (1) Composition Skills, and (2) American Literature. Those needing English 12 should take (1) Composition Skills, and (2) English Literature.

Semester English Courses
Composition Skills
Rising grades 9–12. June 16–July 1, 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $350.
This course examines the principles of effective composition—organization, paragraphing, sentence structure, grammar, and vocabulary. Frequent practice in different essay forms is included.
Grammar, Vocabulary Building, and Literary Analysis
Rising grades 9–12. July 2–18, 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $350.
Students receive a complete review of basic grammatical rules and principles as well as vocabulary study involving Latin roots as a foundation for expanding a student’s vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on use rather than memorization. Students also read selected works of literature and write analytical papers.
American Literature
Rising grades 10–12. July 2–18, 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $350.
This course is a chronological survey of landmarks of American literature from the early 19th century to the present. The literature selection features novels, short stories, and poetry, and the course includes ongoing writing of critical essays.
English Literature
Rising grades 10–12. July 2–18, 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. $350.
This class covers literature from the age of the Anglo-Saxons to the modern era. The literature selections include poetry, drama, and novels. Students write informal essays as well as critical analysis.
Skill or Enrichment Courses
Kaplan’s SAT Workshop Review
Rising grades 11–12. July 14–18, 9:00 a.m. to noon. $340 (Full payment due with registration).
In this one-week course, Kaplan, the leader in test preparation, teaches specific techniques and key test-taking strategies needed to master the new SAT. The course includes a full-length practice SAT plus a computer-generated scoring analysis, pinpointing students’ strengths and weaknesses.
Boys’ & Girls’ Strength Camp
Ages 12 and older. June 16–July 25, 10:00 a.m. to noon. $400 for six weeks, $75 per week. Or $15 per day. $30 nonrefundable deposit must accompany application (the deposit is applied to the first class).Three weeks will earn one-quarter of a PE credit.
This program gives students the opportunity to receive individualized attention in a positive group environment. Each athlete performs within a goal-setting structure; the individual in his or her respective fitness program carefully charts progress to promote weekly improvement. Activities include weight instruction (Olympic free weights, Nautilus and Universal equipment), flexibility and agility drills, plyometrics (jumping and bounding exercises to enhance lateral and vertical explosiveness), and cardiovascular conditioning. Emphasis is on identifying individual needs and enhancing athletic performance in those particular areas.
Sheffield Communication’s Advanced Reading Course
Rising grades 10–12. June 17–18, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. $270 (Full payment due with registration).
This intensive two-day course is designed to help average and above-average students increase their reading rates and improve comprehension. Confidence in reading skills is essential if students are to succeed in their secondary school work and meet the demands of college academics. The course includes: (1) building reading speed, (2) adjusting reading rate to the content of the material, (3) improving comprehension and concentration, and (4) learning techniques for better retention and memory. Students build from their present reading ability and progress at their own pace. “It has been of great value to me, and I would recommend this course for everyone” is typical of student comments.
