Alumni Award Recipients
Excerpt from the award presentation remarks made by alumnus Patrick Hobson '89, at the 2016 Alumni Volunteer and Distinguished Faculty/Staff Appreciation Luncheon:
This year’s award recipient is truly one of the most dedicated alumni. A member of the class of 1984, Steven Vaughn has been a loyal supporter of the Alumni Association for three decades and continues to generously offer his time, expertise, and resources to further the mission of the school. And, he does it with a big-hearted, humble spirit.
Over the years, Steven has served the Alumni Association in many capacities. From 2001-2006, he was an active member of the Alumni Council, including a term as President. When the school resurrected the Alumni Council in 2014, Steven agreed to come back as Past President, a role he’ll continue through the end of this school year.
Steven has also been involved with Alumni Career Day and volunteered for the Alumni Annual Fund, and he’s served on numerous committees, including his Class Reunion Committee and the Alumni Council Nominating Committee. He eagerly jumps in to help with whatever is needed, whether it’s making Annual Fund calls at the phone-a-thon to welcoming guests at events. Steven is a real team player and sets a high standard for all of our alumni volunteers.
Stacy Lynch, alumna from the class of 1979, former Alumni Director, and now third-grade teacher, shared the following about her experience working with Steven on the Alumni Council: “Steven really appreciates his Country Day education and cherishes the friendships he made during his time here. He is a dedicated volunteer who is willing to take on any task—big or small. I really appreciate his leadership.”
In addition to the countless hours he’s devoted to Country Day, Steven has been one of the school’s most consistent donors. In fact, he’s participated in the Annual Fund consecutively for the last 20 years. He’s also contributed to the two previous capital campaigns and the John R. Cook Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund. When asked why he continues to support the school, Steven will tell you that he appreciates the experience he had as a student and the lifelong relationships he formed.
Alumni Director Jonsie Evans shared the following about Steven, “The thing I admire most about Steven is his positive attitude, which I believe comes from his sincere appreciation for life. His authenticity permeates the way he interacts with others and naturally draws people to him. He leads with heart, and he makes a difference.”
