Girls lacrosse in the state of North Carolina took a bit to take off, but once it did it ran like wildfire. Country Day led the charge, along with a few other schools in the NCISAA, starting a program in 2006 (club team) with Head Coach Ed Burnam, who really helped pioneer girls lacrosse in our area. By the 2007 season, the team was sanctioned as a varsity sport. During his five years at the helm, Coach Burnam earned two state championships. Kristy Boyles took the program over in 2012, and her teams have also earned two state championships. The Bucs have competed in every state final since the first state championship in 2009. Country Day is coming off a back-to-back state championship run and hopes to be in contention again this season.
