Our Program

Welcome to Buccaneer Athletics!

Here at Charlotte Country Day School, our interscholastic athletics program is an integral part of the student experience.

Our program builds on the lessons our students learn in the classroom, promoting values from commitment and resilience to selflessness and cooperation. It gives our community a focal point for school spirit and pride, bringing together students, staff, and families to root on our teams. And it allows us to connect with the communities beyond our campus, linking us to our peer schools and showcasing the best that Country Day has to offer.

Our commitment to athletics is reflected in our diverse offerings: We field 72 teams in 26 sports each year. It is evident in our widespread participation: 90 percent of our student body participates in at least one sport.  And it is visible in our competitive success: Our teams have 18 state championships in the past four years, including three on a single Saturday this past fall. Our memberships in the Greater Charlotte Middle School Athletic Association (GCMSAA) and Charlotte Independent Schools Athletic Association (CISAA) allow us to compete regularly against many of the top programs in the greater Charlotte region; our designation as a 3A school in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA) puts us in the state’s largest classification for independent schools.

All of our student-athletes have access to top-notch on-campus facilities that include gyms, natural grass fields, indoor and outdoor tracks, tennis courts, and spaces for our sports medicine and strength and conditioning programs. They are supported in their endeavors by outstanding human resources: Our staff includes 130 coaches, certified athletic trainers, and a full-time strength and conditioning coach. For those looking to continue playing a sport at the collegiate level, we offer extensive guidance to help them navigate the college recruiting process. Throughout their time here, our student-athletes have the tools they need to learn, grow, and excel.

I encourage you to check us out—on this site, on the sidelines, or in the sports pages—and see what we have to offer. And I hope you enjoy what you see.

Go Bucs!
