Guidance

The Lower School guidance program uses a "primary prevention" approach in order to prevent minor problems from developing into major ones. The approach is based on the fact that all children are unique individuals and have numerous strengths from which they can draw as they attempt to cope with the many challenges of growing up.

Through a program of classroom guidance activities with the guidance counselor, we seek to develop character and nurture the uniqueness of every child. These activities are designed to increase the student's self-esteem and sense of identity, to develop decision-making and communication skill, and to promote a better understanding of feelings and the world around them. Students also explore the dynamics of group cooperation as they work together toward a common goal.

Even small children have frustrations and problems, which occasionally seem overwhelming. For this reason, individual and small group counseling are available with the guidance counselor.
